Protecting constitutional and fundamental rights
Roy, Shecter & Vocht will fight to protect and to advance civil liberties.
A city, county or municipal person is not allowed to misuse his or her governmental authority or position to intentionally ignore, abuse or deprive a citizen’s constitutional rights. Such rights include:
▪ Freedom of speech, association, or religion
▪ Rights to privacy
▪ Rights of due process
▪ Right to equal protection
▪ Equal rights to schooling and to housing
▪ Protection against malicious or wrongful prosecution
▪ Protection against misconduct by school officials
▪ False arrest, illegal detention, malicious prosecution, and police abuse
▪ Improper denial of government benefits
▪ Unnecessary use of guns
▪ Improper treatment of patients who are imprisoned
▪ Freedom from cruel and unusual punishment
▪ Sexual abuse claims
These claims are usually brought under a law called 42 USC Section 1983.
If either you or a loved one has been the victim of governmental misconduct, please call us at 248-540-7660. We will help you determine if your civil liberties have been violated and if the law provides a remedy or recovery for damages.
